Ian Roberts is an American actor, comedian, and writer. He portrays Dr. Fishman, or "the literal doctor" in six episodes of Arrested Development.


Ian Roberts was born in 1968 in Queens, New York. After graduating from Grinnell College in Iowa with a degree in acting, Ian relocated to Chicago where he and some other comedian friends founded the famed improv troupe the Upright Citizen's Brigade.

Aside from the TV series based on the UCB, also titled Upright Citizen's Brigade, Roberts can be seen in episodes of Children's Hospital, Players, and Reno 911!. He can be seen in the movies Anchorman, Step Brothers, I Love You Man, and Drillbit Taylor, among many others.

Roberts is also the executive producer and writer on the acclaimed Comedy Central series Key & Peele.
