"It Ain't Easy Being White" (also referred to as "You’re My Bro, Not My Brother (It Ain’t Easy Being White)" by composed David Schwartz) is a song written by G.O.B. and sung by him and his puppet Franklin on their album Franklin Comes Alive. It parodies the famous Muppet song "Bein' Green", sung by Kermit the Frog.

A full version which runs for 1:20 appears on At Long Last... Music and Songs from Arrested Development.

Appearances[]

The song is first featured when G.O.B. asks Michael for $5,000 to invest in a Franklin CD, and Michael assumes he means a certificate of deposit from Franklin Templeton Investments. G.O.B. meant to record Franklin Comes Alive! with his puppet Franklin. "It Ain't Easy Being White" is one of the feature tracks. ("Righteous Brothers").

G.O.B. and Franklin later sing "It Ain't Easy Being White" as a duet to cheer Michael up. ("Forget-Me-Now") G.O.B. accidentally plays the song when pretending to kidnap George to teach him a lesson. ("Making a Stand") G.O.B. switches out Julia Adelaide's doctor's tape with a tape containing "It Ain't Easy Being White". The song is also played by the Hung Jury when Franklin is called to the witness stand in an episode of Mock Trial with J. Reinhold. ("Fakin' It")

G.O.B. sings a similar song to Michael, "It's so easy to forget," after giving him a forget-me-now. ("Flight of the Phoenix")

Lyrics[]

G.O.B.: It ain’t easy being white,

Franklin: It ain’t easy being brown!

G.O.B.: All this pressure to be bright,

Franklin: I got children all over town!

 From "Righteous Brothers"

Hung Jury: It ain’t easy being white, it ain’t easy being brown. You’re my bro, not my brother.

 From "Fakin' It"

G.O.B.: It ain’t easy being white,

Franklin: It ain’t easy being brown!

G.O.B.: All this pressure to be bright,

Franklin: I got children all over town!

G.O.B.: Sometimes when I lose my way,

Franklin: Hell I get up, and I get down.

G.O.B.: We rely on one another,

Franklin: 'Cause you're my bro!

G.O.B.: Not my brother.
That's right brother..
Listen up, one time..
Hey bro..
Hit that guitar brother..
Sometimes when I lose my way,.

Franklin: I get up and hell I get down.

G.O.B.: We rely on one another. Listen up!

Franklin: 'Cause you're my bro!

G.O.B.: You ain't my brother. Oh.
